BR1M is going down the drain
The Government hand-out amounting to several BILLION ringgit is obviously going down the drain.
This is not an unfounded, wild allegation thrown by an anti-Government blogger or a Daim lackey. This is a fact which has now been picked up by none other than a member of the cabinet.
Will the brilliant advisors who came up with BR1M now take stock of the damning failure of the ill-conceived hand-out or would they opt to attack all those critics, including Tengku Adnan?
I have written about BR1M HERE and HERE.
The intention maybe good but BR1M is certainly not the right method to help the needy. The idea of giving cash handouts cannot possibly be right in a country where almost FOUR MILLION foreigners are earning a living and sending home BILLIONS of RM annually.
I'm saying it again. Put a stop to BR1M and think of doing something more sustainable with the BILLIONS flowing into the drains via BR1M.
I'm sure even the rating agencies wouldn't approve such wastage of public funds.
p/s Just a simple thought. Wouldn't it be better if the Government or some of its many agencies opted to erect malls around the country where the needy could be assisted into small business/enterprises to sustain themselves?

Bukit Gelugor - Show leadership and maturity
Bukit Gelugor by-election to be held on May 25
T K Letchumy Tamboo | Updated: April 24, 2014 KUALA LUMPUR: The Election Commission (EC) today announced that the polling day for the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary by-election will be held on May 25.
EC Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof who announced the date, also said that the nominations will be held on May 12. He added that early voting will be held on May 21.
The by-election in the Parliamentary seat, is being held after its member of Parliament Karpal Singh met a road accident when the car he was travelling in rammed into the side of a lorry at the North South Expressway on April 17. - AWANI
We are heading into another by-election for the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary seat following the sudden demise of its elected representative the late YB Karpal Singh.
Karpal won the seat in the 13th GE last year with an overwhelming majority of 42,706 votes.
With the EC's announcement today, the DAP would certainly field a candidate to reclaim the seat which they won with a landslide majority just slightly over a year ago. The candidate, DAP insiders say, would most likely it be either the late Karpal's son or daughter. There is also at least one other local Chinese candidate whom the Penang DAP has been floating.
The looming and blooming question on many minds now is whether the Barisan Nasional would contest in this unexpected by-election for a seat left behind by Karpal Singh.
There have been debates with lots of logic and common sense on the pros and cons of contesting in Bukit Gelugor. The odds are certainly stacked against the BN from all angles.
But would the BN's decision to contest or not to contest in this Bukit Gelugor by-election be based on logic, common sense and/or realpolitik ?
Are there any other considerations which outweighs logic, common sense and realpolitik?
If the BN's decisions (confined to by-elections) are based on common sense, logic and realpolitik would MCA been allowed to contest in the manufactured Kajang by-election?
If there are no other hidden considerations, BN should not contest in the Bukit Gelugor by-election simply because it is the right thing to do. It is plain logic supported by common sense.
I'm sure many a BN leader would agree with me if their mind/thoughts are not clouded by whispers about 'how much we could make from the funds allocated for yet another by-elections'.
Ignore those irresponsible whisperers who convert by-elections in BUY-elections. For them its all about funds and who gets which contract.
This is the time for the BN chairman and Prime Minister to cast raw, meaningless politics aside and show leadership. Show the people that BN practices mature politics.
In fact the BN may win over more hearts and minds of the people if you don't contest in honour of the late Karpal Singh. Such goodwill will earn more than the number of votes the MCA may garner in a contest in Bukit Gelugor.
p/s We did not contest in the Penanti by-elections, remember?
Kit Siang survives Semporna and DAP flogs the late Karpal ?
This is DAP's Lim Kit Siang for you. It is always about him and his dynasty.
Barely 8 hours after YB Karpal was killed in a tragic accident in Perak, the DAP leader sent out the above tweet. The tragic death of Karpal was apt for him to glorify his heroic self.
The above testimony of Kit Siang's 'mind' was glaring but never in my wildest dream did I anticipate the Democratic Action Party of which the late Karpal was a loyal servant for decades to embark on something cheaper.
The DAP has organised a series of 'memorial service' to be held like a roadshow going around the country with Opposition leaders and anti-government personalities as speakers.
Is this a new method of holding memorial service for the dead? Is this in memory of Karpal the Tiger of Jelutong or is there something more to this?
Why have you lined up politicians, a convicted criminal, Ambiga and other Opposition personalities to speak at these so called series of memorial (roadshow) ?
If you are decent enough, please call upon Malaysians from all races, religion, ethnicity etc to say a prayer for the late Karpal Singh and remember him in their very own way. Don't flog the illustrious lawyer/politician for your political survival. This is so cheap, cheaper than the Semporna survivor Kit Siang.
Worse still, stop using Karpal Singh's death to whip anti-Government sentiments and call it a memorial service.
If you guys have no shame, please remember that others do.
Rest in peace YB Karpal Singh.
p/s This episode reminds me of how DAP flogged the dead Teoh Beng Hock and his family before the last General Elections.

Leadership by example ? - UPDATED
Checks revealed the above Handa CRV which was parked, almost in the middle of the road, on a main road belongs to an individual identified as :-
Name: Zairil khir johari -
IC No: 82****-71-51**
Address: Qurin Court Jln HQ, Penang.
If the above details are indeed genuine and it is in fact DAP Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari's car, just imagine where he would most likely park his car if Pakatan Rakyat takes control of the Federal Government.
Just imagine!
p/s Is this the case of 'kurang-ajar-ness' running in the blood?

Cabinet reshuffle ?
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak unveiled the above list of Ministers and Deputy Ministers on the 15th of May 2013, almost a year ago.
Selected Barisan Nasional Members of Parliament who contested and won in the 13th GE and a few chosen individuals (Senators) were appointed as Ministers and put together to form the Malaysian Cabinet.
Touted as 'Najib's Cabinet', the line-up of new faces promised hope, both for the rakyat and for BN as a political coalition that was almost slaughtered in the last GE.
Shouldn't the performance of the Cabinet members, who sought to translate the PM's transformation agenda, be now opened for scrutiny since it is almost a year since their appointment?
Where are Ministers report cards? I hope PEMANDU had prepared one for their minister too.
There has been growing calls for the Prime Minister to reshuffle the current Cabinet since some of the current members, both the first-timers and veterans alike, have proven to be incompetent in their role.
Some Ministers are just plain humiliation to a coalition that has been in power for more than five decades. This is an open secret.
We must stop trying to sugar-coat an open secret. The Prime Minister must be empowered to ship out incompetent Ministers before its too late. Non-performing MPs too must be reprimanded.
MPs must be reminded that they are elected to represent the rakyat and not to work towards grooming themselves to be contractors and businessmen/women. This is a real cancer in the system.
Impending changing of guards (MBs and/or CMs) in at least three states has also been the talk of the town. The PM, sources say, could present these changes (both at state and federal levels) in a single package to give a new sense of hope to the rakyat.
Only a better, trustworthy hope will hold us together now at a time when the Opposition are busy peddling in nothing but half truths, hatred and plain lies.
This is not about billion ringgit announcements or handouts like BR1M. This is about going back to basics and serving the people in a manner that could touch their hearts and minds.
Its not about gimmicks and propaganda. It is about cleaning the house of unwanted rubbish and starting afresh.
But is the PM brave enough to wards off the wants and tantrums of the so called war-lords who are hell bent on killing the goose that has been laying the golden egg for more than five decades now?
What do you think the PM should do and who do you think would be the people's choice to be in the Malaysian Cabinet ?
Lets also include the Deputy Ministers in this reshuffle. Those who have been sleeping on their cosy seat must be allowed to do just that, minus the perks and position.
p/s Don't let the Waythamorthy experience stop us from engaging our opponents, but remember not to step any closer to chameleons like Anwar Ibrahim.

R.I.P Yang Berhormat Karpal Singh
Karpal Singh, 74, passed away in a tragic road accident along the North South highway early this morning.
You may have liked or disliked the prolific politician and fierce criminal lawyer but his sudden passing in such a tragic manner certainly sent shock waves throughout the nation. It is a lost.
It is indeed a big lost.
Rest in peace Yang Berhormat Karpal Singh. I'm sure true Malaysians from both sides of the political divide are grieving your sudden death.
My condolences to YB Karpal Singh's family, in particular to his pillar of strength Mdm Gurmit and son YB Gobind Singh Deo.

Was there risk assessment for BR1M?
This is certainly rare. Such specific question on the process of a Government aid programme, coming from an Opposition MP, is indeed very rare. YB Shamsul Iskandar appears to be in agreement that BR1M is indeed noble and is concerned about the implementation or rather the leakages/misappropriation and or fraud.
Personally I have my reservations about BR1M. I'm still think BR1M should be scrapped but the MP seems to have some valid queries. YB Shamsul is confident that the Finance Ministry i.e. the Secretary General of Treasury Tan Sri Irwan Serigar Abdullah would have commissioned an elaborate risk assessment before BR1M was rolled out, and he wants the risk management study/report to be made public.
As I said earlier, Shamsul's pointed query has raised many questions, top of which is ' Did the Treasury actually carry out a risk assessment study/report? Is Shamsul fishing for something bigger?
The person who could possibly give us the answer must be Irwan Serigar himself. If the report is there, please make it public Tan Sri.
If not...
p/s Truly surprised with the Bukit Katil MPs ability to pose pertinent questions. ;-)

The facts of Deputy PM's Dubai trip...

.... and as usual the half truths and Anwar-like lies are everywhere, including this one HERE.
It would be naive for anyone to expect those liars to stop their antics. I would expect them, as always, to twist and turn the matter till people are confused.
Anwar Ibrahim's SODOMY CONVICTION is one fine example. When it suits them its fine and the Judiciary is as free as the dove, but when the serial sodomist is found guilty all hell must break loose.
I seriously pity those Pakatoons who swallow, hook, line and sinker of such bullshit almost on a daily basis.
p/s Remember the 'crocodile tears' incident? It was based on a bloody lie. Ask Kit Siang about it.

Do the right thing Prime Minister, you can't go wrong
REDIRECT: Call to focus on welfare, social programmes
KUALA LUMPUR: THE government's 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) cash aid programme to help low-income earners tide over the rising cost of living, should have an exit plan, said some analysts who also believe that it should be given in other forms.
An analyst, who did not want to be named, said the government should shift its focus on improving the services provided by the Welfare Department (JKMM) and other aid agencies rather than continuing with the cash aid.
"BR1M is not the way. We already have various ways to help the poor like through those distributed through JKMM," he told the New Straits Times yesterday.
"I think they (the government) should focus on improving the existing aid agencies, including zakat (tithes) and others, rather than adding another inefficient delivery channel. I would just abolish it and redirect attention and funds to improving the services of JKMM and have more spotlight on it."
The government's BR1M programme has become a hot topic of discussion among Malaysians since it was introduced in 2012, with negative views seeming to outweigh the positive, especially those coming from economists and analysts alike.
They argue that while the cash handout would not have a significant impact on households, it was also not a good mechanism in reducing poverty in the long term.
Universiti Malaya Centre for Poverty and Development Studies economist Associate Professor Dr Fatimah Kari said the cash handout did not provide a holistic social protection programme or provide incentives to get out of poverty.
"As an economist, I don't believe in BR1M. The government must announce an exit policy for BR1M. This can be done by providing comprehensive social programmes that give access to public health, education and jobs."
Similar sentiments were shared by other economists who urged the government to fine-tune the aid programme to ensure it meets the objective of cushioning the impact from the rising cost of living.
Socio-economic Development and Research Institute (SEDAR Institute) executive director Ivanpal S. Grewalin, in a recent report, was quoted as saying that it was only appropriate for the government to refine the method employed, given that the payout amount would increase over the next few years.
Ivanpal added that the aid delivery could be channelled in other forms, including utilities rebate vouchers or even food stamps.
The BR1M money first started as a one-off cash payment of RM500 to households with an income of less than RM3,000 a month.
This year, the government has increased the amount to RM650, which will benefit some seven million people compared with last year's 6.8 million, amounting to a disbursement of RM3.7 billion.
The government also announced its intention to distribute the cash hand-out twice this year to enable recipients to use it within a specified time and in a more careful manner compared with a one-off hand out.
In light of the government's intention to increase the BR1M amount from time to time, economists warned that expanding BR1M or any social safety net might not be sustainable in the long run.
"This may sound cliche, but the government should come out with a more effective mechanism to teach the rakyat to fish rather than feeding them with fish," said another analyst. - NST
Maybe some of the Prime Minister's able advisors and apple-polishers may not like to hear this but Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had made it very clear from day one that BR1M was a bad idea.
Do read Dr M's thoughts in Fuel Subsidy (Sept 2013) and the latest BR1M (March 2014). It was crystal clear and some of us are very sure that months before penning his thoughts Dr M had infact relayed his reservations or rather objections to the Prime Minister himself.
Of course when it comes from Dr Mahathir many a consultant and self appointed financial gurus would find it hard to digest the logic, simply due to their bloated ego and misplaced motivation.
Something must be very wrong somewhere if those rating agencies and financial analysts, whom the Government of the day is so fearful of, demand us to do away with fuel subsidy but at the same time silently agree to wasteful handouts like BR1M.
Where is the logic ?
The fact that BR1M is being finally debated openly by the mainstream media, I pray, is a strong indication that the Government has finally come to a realisation that such handouts can't possibly go on. BR1M is absolutely irresponsible and even the handsomely paid foreign consultants and their ilk can't deny this fact.
As the Malay saying goes - Bila sesat dihujung jalan, pulanglah kepangkal jalan.
Just stop BR1M and, as those analysts are saying now (in the NST article above), go back to basics.
P/s I don't think we should appoint another consultant to review BR1M. TQ
Time to review ESSCOM
The Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) is once again under the spotlight for the wrong reasons. Slightly over a year since the Prime Minister announced its formation and barely a week before the first anniversary of the appointment of its top office bearers, ESSCOM is under fire.
ESSCOM is under fire for its perceived ineffectiveness in ensuring the safety and security of Sabah, particularly the east coast of Sabah.
Is ESSCOM, with almost an exact DNA of the Rajang Area Security Command (Rascom) which was formed more than 40 years ago in 1972, really ineffective?
Is it truly toothless or are we witnessing the failure of those entrusted to make ESSCOM work for the people of Sabah?
This issue was even discussed in Parliament following an Emergency Motion tabled by an Opposition MP from Sabah. While the tabling of the motion is commendable, the Opposition and some Government MPs were obviously more interested in cheap politics rather than wanting a solution.
Calling for the disbandment of ESSCOM is plain stupid. What do you do after ESSCOM is disbanded? Create a new security set up and spend more money?
Linking the kidnapping to RCI on Illegal Immigrants/fake ICs is nothing but cheaper than cheap politics to stir resentment against the ruling coalition. Suggesting the shutting down of resorts on islands of the east coast of Sabah is not smart either.
The emergency motion in Parliament just flowed down into the drain because only a few was interested in finding a solution. A big majority of the MPs were merely pointing fingers.
This latest brouhaha following the kidnapping of two persons from a resort 5 minutes off the coast of Semporna, almost exactly on ESSCOM's first anniversary is indeed a blessing in disguise.
The Government, PM Najib Razak and Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman to be specific, must grab this opportunity to initiate a comprehensive review of ESSCOM to enhance its effectiveness.
It would be dumb to say ESSCOM has been useless for the last one year but it would be equally naive to think that all is perfect in the set up and/or the way it is being run.
If we want to have better results and prevent further kidnapping and organized criminal activities on the east coast and Sabah in general, we must initiate change.
An all encompassing review would most certainly tell you what and who to change. For a start, the Government may want to consider someone with the relevant experience to head ESSCOM. This complete review of ESSCOM must also include a review on all the main agencies and their role in the last year.
Non cooperative servants of the government must be shipped out.
This is an opportunity for the Government to enhance the role of ESSCOM and deliver on the promise to make Sabah a safer place for all.
We should not be doing it solely for the tourist dollar. Be sincere and do it because we want our people to be safe in their own country.
Insanity, as quoted above, is if we close our eyes and ears and continue to do the same things over and over again while expecting better results.
Please act now before people lose trust... completely.

It's the bitchy AirAsia again
The picture of the article that is making its rounds in social media.
PETALING JAYA: AirAsia has apologised over an article published on its in-flight travel magazine travel 3sixty April edition, which appeared to be sarcastic towards the missing Malaysia Airlines MH370 flight.
In a statement on Saturday, AirAsia Executive Chairman Datuk Kamarudin Meranun said that the article was printed before the tragic incident took place, but will remove the magazine from all flights on AirAsia aircraft immediately.
"With deep regret and remorse I would like to sincerely apologise for any offense caused by the pilot's perspective article in the latest issue of travel 3Sixty magazine," he said.
Kamarudin, who is also the publisher of the magazine said they have addressed the issue to ensure that it does not happen in the future.
"A disciplinary action will be taken to the editorial team as well," he said. - more in The Star
Go to my previous posting for some insight on how these bunch of cheapskates instigate lawlessness and then take turns to apologise .
Shame on you Tony, Kamarudin and Aireen. I really didn't think you people would go so low!
You certainly owe MAS and Malaysians a public apology.
Move to KLIA2 - PM tells AirAsia
Datuk Seri Najib Razak has finally stood up to remind some recalcitrant bussinesmen and their ilk, who the real boss is.
Najib, as quoted by the NST news alert, has told AirAsia to move to KLIA2 when the current LCCT is closed on the 9th of May, 2014. FULL STOP
You, AirAsia, had no respect for authority and wanted the Prime Minister himself to intervene to sort out your never ending problems. You had no respect for either the Malaysian Airport Holdings Berhad or the Ministry of Transport because you demanded none other than the PM to solve your problem.
Now that the PM has spoken and reiterated the MAHB and Ministry of Transport's decision, stop being a recalcitrant and learn to follow orders.
There can't be two sets of rules every time you are in the room, even if you are accompanied by the top man's brother.
We take note that one of your staff did do this (screen capture below). I think many of us could guess where the badly brought up guy could have sucked in his motivation from.
BTW Tony Fernandes, I did ask you this question yesterday.
Was it a smear campaign or is this how your cheap airlines markets itself ?
It is very unlike you to be silent Tony. Say something so that the people could judge you and your cheap airlines.
Actually... 'Everybody can judge now'
