PROFILE

Datuk Seri G. Palanivel became the 8 th President of the Malaysian Indian Congress on 6 December 2010. He rose through rank and file in MIC after he had a long and eventful membership since 1968 while in Penang, his hometown. He took over the helm of leadership from Dato Seri S Samy Vellu in a smooth transition of power.
He was appointed as a Senator on May 2010.
Datuk Seri G. Palanivel's position in the government began when he was appointed as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Welfare and National Unity in 1995. Later, he became the Deputy Minister of Rural Development of Malaysia from 1999 until 2004. In 2005 was made the Deputy Minister of Welfare and Family Development. He continued as the Deputy Minister until March 2008.
His involvement with MIC goes back to the time when he was 19 years old, when he first became a member in the Jelutong MIC branch in Penang in 1968. He has, through his track record, shown his enormous capacity and passion to work relentlessly for the people, particularly the Indians. He has at every stage devised new programmes to reach out to the people which have benefited them directly or has created awareness on the role and avenues, both of the private sector and the government, that can be exploited for the benefit of the people. - MIC
Well, it would most certainly be a win-win-win situation for MIC, Palanivel and most importantly the Indian community in Penang should the party president decide to balik kampung to provide his valuable services there.

Palanivel is an experienced politician (read more about him in the MIC website). I must say the MIC's website is very well managed

MIC in Penang is basically suffering from an utter lack of leadership and guts to take on the tyranny of the current regime. How else could we describe the current state of affairs of MIC in Penang?

Who leads MIC in Penang? Basically there is no leadership and every Tom, DICK and Harry especially the veterans are talking only about 'peruntukan' and 'kawasan'..thats funds and about the possibility of contesting, and or how the other person shouldn't be allowed to contest in the next GE.

Does anybody remember MIC standing up for anything in Penang for the last four years since DAP took over?

So, guess it would be a wise decision for DATUK SERI G.Palanivel to head back home, to Penang, to put things in place there.

The election is not around the corner, there are no more corners. It is there... staring right in your eyes.

p/s Datuk Seri, maybe you could kickstart your journey home to lead MIC in Penang by doing something about this ... (orang Penang kata MIC is sleeping with DAP in this matter but I dont think its true)

Thieves in temple and the DAP in Penang
Hush Hush

The spat between Karpal and Ramasamy may be reignited after the incident at the hilltop temple (Inset:RSN Rayer)
IT looks like even the house of God has become fair game for politicians these days, judging from what is happening at the Waterfall Murugan Hilltop Temple in Jalan Kebun Bungah Penang.

The temple has been seeing a windfall of sorts with an increasing number of devotees and tourists making a beeline to go there since it was rebuilt into an impressive and imposing landmark at the top of the hill.

Not surprising therefore that it has also attracted the interest of politicians, especially those of Indian origin - be it from the DAP, MIC or any other wannabe.

However, what happened at the temple last Saturday is set to cause a storm which could lead to a major fallout among the Indian community and reignite the `warlord - godfather` spat between DAP chairman Karpal Singh and Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy.

Apparently, a representative of the Hindu Endownment Board was caught red handed with RM10,395 in cash that he had allegedly pocketed from the collection boxes  at the temple.

The incident took place at the temple premises and the 40-year-old man was caught discreetly slipping the cash into his sling bag.

Several committee members later conducted a search on him and found the money inside the sling bag. Ramasamy who was notified ordered a police report against the culprit and he was subsequently arrested.

The suspect's family immediately contacted DAP's Seri Delima assemblyman RSN Rayer - who is also a the Hindu Endownment Board member, for help and pleaded that he intervene.

Taking pity to the man's plight, Rayer decided to take it upon himself to instruct a temple clerk who had lodged the police report against the thief to withdraw his complain.
