DISCIPLINE-D by Rule of Law

KUALA LUMPUR: A lawyer yesterday became the second person to be charged in relation to the Bersih 3.0 rally that took place more than a week ago.

G.N. Rajesh Kumar claimed trial to contravening a court order by being part of an illegal assembly at Jalan Raja.

G.N. Rajesh Kumar, 44, claimed trial to contravening a court order issued on April 26 by magistrate Zaki Asyraf Zubir by being part of an illegal assembly at Jalan Raja, here, on April 28.

Rajesh Kumar, who is a Bar Council disciplinary committee member, also pleaded not guilty to an alternative charge of taking part, with other Bersih 3.0 members, in a gathering at prohibited areas of Dataran Merdeka. - NST

The Bar Council and its president Lim Chee Wee would certainly hold on to the 'innocent until proven guilty' maxim in this latest case which involves their DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE MEMBER.

Its only fair that Mr G.N. Rajesh Kumar be allowed to prove his innocence or otherwise.

While treading this difficult path (with the Friday EGM on his mind), Wee should not forget that the whole issue at hand now is about the respect for RULE of LAW.

If the Bar Council truly respects the Rule of Law then Wee and his boys should immediately stop demonising those who have had accusations hurled against them, including their very own DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE MEMBER G.N. Rajesh Kumar and the Royal Malaysian Police.

Let the law take its course. We respect the Rule of Law... don't we, Wee?

p/s The Government didn't even consider appointing the Malayan Communist Party (MCP) leader Chin Peng to the Independent Advisory Panel, for that please don't attempt to ridicule the appointment of former IGP Tun Haniff Omar as panel chairman..OK?
