Politics or (un)civil society?

Popular PAS Member of Parliament and former Pas deputy president says Bersih is all about politics and should be led by politicians.
Basically Nasharuddin says ...

Ambiga not fit to lead, says senior PAS leader
By REGINA LEE

KUALA LUMPUR: A senior PAS leader hit out at Bersih 2.0 chairman Datuk S. Ambiga saying she is not fit to lead the movement because of her ties with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual (LGBT) community,
PAS central committee member Nasharudin Mat Isa said PAS should instead take the lead in the Bersih 3.0 demonstration planned for Saturday.
“There is a fatwa against homosexuality, saying that homosexuals are not even fit to be dined with. If we follow the fatwa, then yes, Ambiga should definitely not lead the Bersih 2.0 movement or the demonstration,” he told reporters after speaking at an anti-LGBT forum in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia here yesterday.
Ambiga was supposed to have opened a sexuality rights workshop Seksualiti Merdeka last year, which was called off following public outcry.
“Political parties should helm the demonstration scheduled to be held at Dataran Merdeka,” said Nasharudin, who was the PAS deputy president until last year.
“I support the demonstration to call for electoral reforms. This demonstration has to be encouraged and promoted, and it is better for PAS to lead it instead of someone who supports the LGBT cause,” he said.
He said political parties were the biggest stakeholders in the electoral reforms and system, not individuals.
“PAS and other parties must come forward and lead it. This is the game of politicians, not the general public,” Nasharudin said. – TheStar

Fellow Pas MP Khalid Samad embarks on personal attack and says Nasharudin is an ‘outsider’...

KUALA LUMPUR, 23 APRIL, 2012: PAS Selangor deputy commissioner Khalid Samad describes his party colleague Nasharudin Mat Isa’s statement calling for PAS to lead Bersih, replacing current co-chairperson, Datuk S Ambiga as a view of an outsider.

“He (Nasharuddin) is not getting himself really involved in party meetings of late, so it is a view of an outsider,” said Khalid when contacted by Malaysian Digest.

The Star yesterday reported that Bachok MP and Nasharudin had hit out at Ambiga, saying she is not fit to lead because of her ties with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual (LGBT) community. Khalid Samad

Lasy year Anwar Ibrahim said ...
June19,2011
PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim said that he would tell Bersih 2.0 chairperson S Ambiga to call off the July 9 rally if Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak can assure tomorrow that elections will be free and fair.

"I will call Ambiga and tell her to call off Bersih, if Najib can promise free and fair elections tomorrow," he told over 2,000 PKR members at the party's election convention in Shah Alam today. - Malaysiakini

But Ambiga, the hardcore LGBT supporter, said last year ...

Bersih chairperson Ambiga says it is the people's rally.
(Free Malaysia Today) - Coalition for Free And Fair Elections (Bersih) chairperson, S Ambiga today said the polls watchdog would not back down from its mass rally planned for July 9.
“It is not for Anwar to decide to call it off,” said Ambiga who leads the coalition of about 62 NGOs and political parties.
She was commenting on Opposition Leader and PKR advisor Anwar Ibrahim’s remarks earlier today that he would call off the Bersih rally if the Election Commission guaranteed free and fair election. -  Malaysia Today

 ... and today
At the Bersih press conference, Maria responded to former PAS deputy president Nasharudin Mat Isa’s statement yesterday that Ambiga was not fit to lead Bersih because she supported the cause of the the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
A clearly irritated Maria said: “It is not for him to decide who will be our leader. That is decided by the 84 NGOs that make up Bersih.” - FMT

At the beginning of the press conference, Maria who is one of the stronger advocates of Seksualiti Merdeka and LGBT rights even asked 'Who is Nasharudin?".

It could be sheer arrogance or Maria may not know the Deputy president of PAS when Bersih was conceived.

But Maria, WHO are these NGOs supporting Bersih?

Last year we were told that 62 NGOs carried Bersih on their shoulders, this year (according to Maria) the number was 84 and continues to increase (maybe by the hour).
